Circulation Coins
The Czech Mint has struck all coins in circulation for the needs of the Czech
Republic since 1993.
It was founded on 1st July 1993 at the call of the Czech National Bank, which announced a private tender in 1992 for domestic producers to produce coins in circulation for the newly-established Czech Republic following the dissolution of the federation with Slovakia.
The mint brand of the Czech Mint for currency is “b” with a crown and “ČM” for coins made of precious metals.
The Czech Mint is under the direct control of the Czech National Bank in the production of currency, whilst mutual relations regarding production and the protection of currency are regulated by long-term contracts between the Czech National Bank and the Czech Mint. The Czech Mint has already won a number of orders for supplies of currency and commemorative coins abroad, for example Moldova, the United Arab Emirates, Venezuela, Lebanon and Armenia.
Even though the history of the Czech Mint is not so long, it has managed to win a number of awards in this short time. For example, the bi-metal fifty-crown coin with its image of Prague was declared the most beautiful coin in circulation in 1993 as part of a competition organised regularly in the USA by World Coin News magazine and Krause Publications.
